City of Boroondara, Australia

The City of Boroondara, overseeing the leafy inner-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, was looking for an effective way to report on a range of strategies, plans and internal audit recommendations. It needed to replace the manual spreadsheets and Microsoft Word documents in use, and more rapidly provide quarterly and monthly reports on council’s progress.

A key issue Boroondara recognized was that the council had adopted more than 75 strategies and plans, but they had not been formally reporting against any of them.

To address this problem, the City of Boroondara looked for a system that linked strategic, corporate, business and service level planning to budgets, performance measures and reporting.

The council selected CAMMS’ Strategy Management solution, as it gave the most appropriate functionality, offered the best value for money and the system was easy to use and intuitive.

With CAMMS, the City of Boroondara has completely revamped its reporting process. The council has seen an enormous improvement in the completion rate and timeframes for implementing its strategies.

The visibility provided by reports, which include an update on the number of actions that have been finalized, ensure projects are not just completed, but also conducted in a timely manner.

Senior Business Analyst Gail Power said the solution embedded easily within the organization.

“We now feel we can we can capture any data we need to report against – senior management has definitely seen the benefits and reporting takes less staff time,” she said.

“(CAMMS has helped us to) provide a greater level of transparency and open accountability to the community than we had previously and this has a flow-on effect to our organizational performance and culture.

“Boroondara has been fortunate to be awarded six consecutive gold awards from the Australasian Reporting Awards (for both private and public sectors) for our Annual Report.”
